Western firms are holding $20 billion in profits they cannot move out of Russia.

Since the invasion of Ukraine, many Western companies have maintained operations in Russia. While they have generated significant earnings, the Kremlin has restricted their ability to move these funds abroad, leaving billions of dollars effectively trapped within the country.

Following the invasion of Ukraine, Western businesses that continued to operate in Russia have accumulated an estimated $20 billion in profits. However, these companies face a major hurdle: the Russian government has blocked the repatriation of these earnings.
