AMD to acquire AI research lab World Labs for over $8 billion
AMD announced its acquisition of World Labs, an AI research laboratory co-founded by Dr. Fei-Fei Li. The all-stock deal is valued at roughly $8.2 billion. The acquisition, which is expected to finalize by year-end, aims to integrate World Labs' advanced AI capabilities into AMD.
According to The Verge, AMD is acquiring World Labs, which launched in 2024 and was valued at $1 billion shortly after its inception. World Labs gained attention in 2025 when it released its first commercial offering, a world generation model named Marble, which allows users to create interactive 3D environments using simple text prompts. Following the acquisition, Dr. Fei-Fei Li will take on a senior role at AMD, reporting directly to AMD CEO Lisa Su. The World Labs team is stated to continue its work on advancing AI model research.
The Verge reports that the transaction is structured as an all-stock deal, amounting to approximately $8.2 billion. The completion of this deal is anticipated before the end of the current year.
