Can a Nashville tornado and musical flair drive massive television viewership?
In short: After the conclusion of 9-1-1: Lone Star in February 2025, a new chapter began. 9-1-1: Nashville swapped the Texas heat for Tennessee's musical culture, delivering a high-octane mix of emergency action and family drama that saw viewership numbers skyrocket within just weeks of its debut.
Premiering on ABC on October 9, 2025, 9-1-1: Nashville is the second spin-off in the 9-1-1 franchise. The show, developed by Rashad Raisani, Tim Minear, and Ryan Murphy, centres on personnel at Nashville Fire Department's Station 113. The narrative weaves together professional first-responder duties with the personal lives of characters like Captain Donald "Don" Hart, played by Chris O'Donnell, and his wealthy wife, Blythe (Jessica Capshaw). The production also features Brad Falchuk and Angela Bassett as executive producers. The cast includes Kimberly Williams-Paisley as 911 dispatcher Cammie Raleigh.
The series has been praised for its ability to embrace absurdity, often placing characters in improbable situations, such as a tornado-related emergency. Critics have noted that the show maintains the franchise's signature blend of fast-paced action and character-driven drama, adding a distinct "country flair" to the established formula. This approach has resonated strongly with audiences; after its premiere, total viewership grew from 12.4 million viewers in the first seven days to 19.29 million viewers after 35 days. The series explores various crises alongside family tensions within the Hart household. This includes high-stakes scenarios involving a crashed party bike.
The show's success is reflected in its ratings, particularly among adults aged 18–49, where it ranked as the number one new broadcast series. Following this momentum, ABC renewed the series for a second season in March 2026. The second season, which includes the addition of series regular Ryan Philippe as detective Rogue Kelly, is scheduled to premiere on October 15, 2026. The cast also features LeAnn Rimes as singer Dixie Bennings. Additionally, Michael Provost portrays firefighter lieutenant Ryan Hart.
