In short: The 2009 romantic comedy All About Steve is widely remembered for its critical failure, holding a mere 7% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Yet, its lead actress, Sandra Bullock, achieved a singular historical irony by accepting a Razzie for her performance just one day before winning an Oscar.

Directed by Phil Traill and released in September 2009, All About Steve follows Mary Horowitz, a socially awkward crossword puzzle writer who becomes obsessed with a cameraman named Steve Miller. After a disastrous blind date, Mary embarks on a cross-country pursuit of Steve, eventually finding herself trapped in a mine collapse alongside him. The film was panned by critics, with Metacritic assigning it a score of 17 out of 100, and Time magazine labeling it one of the ten worst chick flicks ever made.

The film's production history began in October 2006 when Fox 2000 Pictures acquired the script by Kim Barker. Filming took place in California, including locations in Pasadena and the Golden Oak Ranch near Santa Clarita. Despite a star-studded cast including Sandra Bullock, Bradley Cooper, and Thomas Haden Church, the film struggled at the box office, grossing $40.1 million worldwide against its North American total of $33.8 million. It opened at number three, trailing behind The Final Destination and Inglourious Basterds.

The 2010 Golden Raspberry Awards saw the film nominated for five categories, ultimately winning Worst Actress and Worst Screen Couple. In a display of good humor, Sandra Bullock attended the ceremony in person to accept her Razzie, famously handing out copies of the film to audience members. The following day, she won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in The Blind Side. This rare double-win cemented her status as one of the few performers to hold both honors simultaneously, turning a critical disaster into a memorable moment in Hollywood history.
