A musical tale of betrayal and vengeance unfolds in this high-stakes television drama
In short: When a gifted songwriter is framed and stripped of her child, she is presumed dead by those who wronged her. Instead, she is reborn under a new identity to infiltrate the music industry. This gripping series follows her calculated path to dismantle the lives of the people who destroyed her own.
La reina soy yo, initially titled Puro Flow, represents a Mexican reimagining of the Colombian series La Reina del Flow. Developed by Teleset and Sony Pictures Television for the network Televisa, the show centers on Yamelí Montoya, a woman whose natural aptitude for songwriting becomes the catalyst for her tragic downfall. After being betrayed by her lover, she finds herself incarcerated, where she suffers the loss of her newborn son and a near-fatal assault.
The narrative shifts when authorities, specifically the DEA, capitalize on the public belief that Yamelí has died. They provide her with a fresh identity: Lari Andrade, a powerful figure within the music production world. This transformation allows her to re-enter the industry, not as the victim she once was, but as a formidable force capable of orchestrating a complex revenge against the individuals responsible for her past suffering.
The series features Michelle Renaud in the dual roles of Yamelí Montoya and Lari Andrade, alongside Lambda García, who portrays the character Carlos Cruz, known as Charly Flow. The production saw its initial release in the United States on Univision, running from May 13, 2019, to August 30, 2019. Following its American debut, the show aired in Mexico on Las Estrellas, beginning on August 26, 2019, and concluding its run on December 17, 2019.
While the show draws heavily on themes of musical ambition and personal retribution, it functions as a character study of resilience and identity. By assuming the persona of a producer, the protagonist gains the leverage necessary to confront those who ruined her life, turning her artistic talent into a weapon for justice.
