In short: Lexa Doig’s career trajectory is a study in versatile performance. Before becoming a staple of science fiction and mystery television, she was a rhythmic gymnast who abandoned a modeling career at 16 to pursue the stage. Her work often explores complex, multi-layered identities.

Lexa Doig first felt the pull of the performing arts at age nine after witnessing a production of Porgy and Bess. This early inspiration led her to a path of rigorous training, including rhythmic gymnastics as a child and American Sign Language as a teenager. While she initially entered a vocational modeling program at Don Mills Collegiate Institute, she made the pivotal decision to drop out of her final year of high school to commit fully to acting.

Doig's early career was defined by a rapid ascent through various media. After co-hosting a Canadian game show, she balanced theater productions of classics like Romeo and Juliet with television roles. Her first recurring role came in 1994 in TekWar, but her most significant early milestone was the title role in the science fiction series Andromeda (2000–2005). In this role, she performed a unique technical feat: portraying the ship's computer in three distinct personas, including its screen AI, a hologram, and the android avatar Rommie.

Her filmography is marked by high-profile genre work, notably playing the female lead Dr. Rowan LaFontaine in the 2001 horror film Jason X. She has since maintained a prolific presence in television, appearing in Stargate SG-1, the remake of V, and the series Continuum. More recently, she has transitioned into mystery and drama, starring in the Aurora Teagarden mystery series and the Netflix series Virgin River. Throughout her career, she has also maintained a personal and professional partnership with actor Michael Shanks, with whom she has collaborated on numerous projects and serves as a charity fundraising partner for the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada.
