In short: The 2009 telenovela Mi pecado, or Burden of Guilt, captivated audiences with its tale of childhood friends turned bitter enemies. Behind the scenes, the production faced a turbulent journey, including last-minute casting replacements, a lead actress battling a rare syndrome, and a schedule that shifted due to its own popularity.

Produced by Televisa, Mi pecado premiered on June 15, 2009, on Canal de las Estrellas. The narrative centers on four childhood friends—Paulino, Gabino, Rodolfo, and Matías—whose bond is fractured by a sin that threatens their families. At the heart of the conflict are Lucrecia and Julián, whose blossoming love is stifled by their parents' long-standing resentment, a tragic accident involving Lucrecia's brother, and the machinations of the ambitious Gabino Roura.

The production was marked by significant personnel changes. The role of Julián Huerta was initially slated for Valentino Lanús, but he eventually withdrew due to a heavy workload, leading to the casting of Eugenio Siller. Similarly, the role of Rodolfo Huerta was intended for Ernesto Laguardia, but he was replaced by Francisco Gattorno after failing to secure leave from his hosting duties on the program Hoy. Sabine Moussier, cast as the manipulative Justina, also faced a difficult path; she initially declined the role because she felt too young to play the mother of Lanús, only to accept it later after the role was recast.

The show's filming was further complicated by Moussier's health. Toward the end of production, she was diagnosed with Guillain–Barré syndrome, which caused her severe pain and memory issues. Producer Juan Osorio Ortiz had anticipated potential departures, allowing him to film Moussier's final scenes in advance, which meant her character did not need to be recast when she was forced to leave the project shortly before completion. Despite these hurdles, the show proved successful enough to be moved from its 6:00 PM time slot to 7:00 PM in July 2009, ultimately running for 110 episodes until its finale on November 13, 2009.
