In short: Before he became a staple of modern animation and video games, Paul Eiding's path to the spotlight began in the 3rd Infantry Division of the United States Army. His journey from a military musical group in Germany to a prolific commercial and stage career highlights a diverse artistic evolution.

Eiding's foundation in performance was built during his military service in Würzburg, Germany. As a member of the Marne Glee Club, he quickly rose to a directing position despite being one of the group's youngest members. This period allowed him to perform for both military and civilian audiences across several European countries, including Belgium, Denmark, and northern France, establishing an early versatility in public performance.

The 1970s and 80s served as a period of intense professional diversification. Eiding balanced a high-volume commercial career—appearing in ads for products ranging from snowmobiles to granola bars—with rigorous theater work in the Midwest. Notably, his time with Dudley Riggs's Brave New Workshop in Minneapolis was characterized by an exhausting improvisational pace, where the troupe performed nine shows a week. This era also saw him transition into film, appearing alongside Sylvester Stallone in the 1980 production of F.I.S.T.

By the early 1980s, Eiding was a fixture in the Twin Cities' theater scene. He hosted the first local award ceremony for distinguished achievement in theater in February 1981 and appeared in a production of The Sound of Music at the Chanhassen Dinner Theater. This deep theater background eventually paved the way for his transition into iconic voice-over roles. Today, he is recognized by audiences for portraying diverse characters such as Perceptor in The Transformers, Colonel Roy Campbell in the Metal Gear series, and Max Tennyson in the Ben 10 franchise.
