In a steampunk London, knights fight vampires with railguns
In short: Imagine an alternate 1886 where the Industrial Revolution didn't just power factories, but armed a secret order of knights against supernatural half-breeds. This steampunk reality blends Arthurian legend with high-tech weaponry, creating a world where mysticism meets thermal imaging and wireless communications.
The game is set in an alternate history where humanity has faced a centuries-long conflict against 'half-breeds'—creatures with bestial traits. While humans outnumbered these monsters, the half-breeds' animal strength gave them the upper hand until the Industrial Revolution turned the tide. This shift introduced advanced technologies like zeppelins, railguns, and weapons that could ignite clouds of thermite or discharge electricity. Engineers in this era were far ahead of their time. They developed thermal imaging and wireless communications. Some weapons functioned as both proximity mines and fragmentation grenades.
Central to this world is the Order of the Knights of the Round Table. These protectors discovered 'Blackwater,' a mystical liquid that granted them healing abilities and significantly extended their lifespans. The narrative follows Sir Galahad as he navigates a London plagued by both supernatural attacks and an anti-government insurgency. The story reveals complex betrayals, including a Lord Chancellor who secretly adopted a Lycan son and a conspiracy involving the trafficking of hibernating vampires to the United States. The narrative includes a mission to foil an assassination of a United India Company chairman. A second explosion during this quest destroyed the Crystal Palace. The plot also reveals that the infamous Jack the Ripper was actually a vampire.
Released in February 2015 by Ready at Dawn, the title received mixed critical reception. While it earned prestigious nominations for its technical achievements, animation, and art direction at the D.I.C.E. Awards, critics frequently debated its linear structure and heavy reliance on quick-time events. Despite these critiques, it became a commercial success, debuting as the best-selling game in the United Kingdom and Ireland during its release week. The game was developed using the proprietary RAD Engine 4.0. It was influenced by the title Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. One month after its launch, the retail price was reduced by 33%.
