Turning neglected suburban laneways into thriving, art-filled community meeting spaces
In short: Discover how a group of gardeners and artists in Victoria, Australia, revitalized lifeless laneways. This segment explores the transformation of urban spaces into vibrant, wildlife-friendly hubs filled with native plants and creative installations.
Filmed in the suburbs of Carnegie and Glen Huntly, Victoria, on Bunurong Country, this project demonstrates the impact of collective effort on urban environments. The community has replaced barren concrete with lush greenery, incorporating species such as Weeping Grass (Microlaena stipoides), Sprawling Bluebell (Wahlenbergia gracilis), and Native Violet (Viola sp.).
The initiative highlights how gardening can serve as a catalyst for social connection and artistic expression. By integrating stunning artwork alongside native flora, the project creates a functional, buzzing ecosystem that serves as a gathering point for local residents.
