Can slowing down in nature actually improve your mental health and wellbeing?
In short: Walking through green spaces is beneficial, but actively engaging with your surroundings offers deeper rewards. This video explores NatureFix, a series of trails designed to encourage mindful observation and sensory connection, backed by scientific evidence for improved mood.
Waminda Parker, Director of The Connective, developed the NatureFix trails in collaboration with local councils. These paths are located across various settings in New South Wales, including hospitals, universities, botanic gardens, and public parks. The project aims to help individuals integrate deliberate, slow-paced interaction with nature into their daily routines.
Each trail features specific activities tailored to its unique environment. These exercises are grounded in research regarding the health benefits of nature immersion. The segment is featured in Season 35, Episode 18 of Gardening Australia, titled 'Autumn: Tranquil trails & fantastic fungi', and was filmed on Gadigal Country in Bellevue Hill, NSW.
