How a 25 square metre garden survived an unusually dry summer
In short: Discover how no-dig gardening techniques helped a small plot cope with extreme heat and significantly below-average rainfall during the summer of 2022.
Following a summer of temperatures exceeding 30C (86F) and afternoon highs 4C above average, this 25 square metre garden faced intense drought conditions. With only 87mm (3.5in) of rain recorded over three months—just 40% of the normal amount—the garden required manual intervention.
The video demonstrates how no-dig soil managed the dry spell. While no permanent irrigation system is in place, essential plants were watered up to three times weekly during the hottest weeks, with the process taking approximately 10 minutes per week.
