How Norsemen evolved from frontier raiders to the elite bodyguards of Byzantine Emperors.
In short: This documentary explores the transformation of Norse warriors who traveled from Europe's frontiers to serve as the personal bodyguards, secret police, and shock troops for the Emperors in Constantinople.
The film examines the tactical prowess of these Norsemen, detailing their use of the impenetrable shield wall and the aggressive 'bore snout' formation. It also provides a look into the opulent, and occasionally debauched, lives these soldiers led within the walls of Constantinople, which is described as the richest city on Earth.
