Can the forgotten women of Greek mythology finally reclaim their own stories?

Interview with Jennifer Saint: Author of Debut Novel Ariadne · 28:30 · Video: World History Encyclopedia · Watch at the source

In short: Jennifer Saint reimagines the classic myth of the Minotaur through the eyes of Ariadne, a princess of Crete. This interview explores how Saint gives voice to women often reduced to pawns in a world dominated by mercurial gods and ambitious men.

In the original myth, Ariadne is the daughter of King Minos, living in the shadow of the Labyrinth where her brother, the Minotaur, is held. When the Athenian prince Theseus arrives as a sacrifice, Ariadne faces a harrowing choice: remain loyal to her family and country or betray them to save the man she loves.

Saint’s debut novel, Ariadne, examines the consequences of this betrayal. By centering the narrative on Ariadne and her sister Phaedra, the work highlights the strength of women navigating a reality where drawing the attention of petulant, powerful gods often leads to ruin.
