The peasant girl who transformed the Hundred Years War through divine vision
In short: Born into a humble farming family, Joan of Arc rose from obscurity to become a legendary military strategist and patron saint of France. This video explores her unlikely journey from a thirteen-year-old visionary to the heroine who broke the siege of Orleans.
Born around 1412 in Domremy, Joan of Arc emerged during a period of intense conflict between the French dauphin Charles and the English King Henry IV. Despite having no prior military experience, she convinced Robert de Baudricourt to grant her passage to the dauphin, eventually fulfilling long-standing prophecies of a maiden in armour who would save the nation.
Upon arriving at Orleans, where the French had struggled for five months, Joan demonstrated unexpected strategic prowess. Her rapid ascent from a peasant to a national symbol was marked by both triumph and tragedy; she was eventually executed as a heretic before being recognized as a martyr and patron saint of France.
