Julian the Apostate: The Final Pagan Emperor Who Challenged Rome's Christian Shift
In short: Emperor Julian attempted to reverse the Roman Empire's conversion to Christianity during his brief reign. This animated documentary examines his rise to power, his economic reforms, and his ultimate failure to restore paganism before his death on a Persian campaign.
Julian, known as the Apostate, seized the throne from Constantius II, the son of Constantine the Great. His short rule was defined by a singular ambition: to dismantle the growing influence of Christianity and return Rome to its pagan roots.
Beyond his religious agenda, Julian implemented various economic reforms. However, his efforts were cut short when he died while leading a military campaign in Persia. He was succeeded by Jovian, who restored Christianity as the imperial faith.
