The versatile voice of anime's most iconic characters
In short: From the ruthless Ryomen Sukuna to the elegant Victor Nikiforov, Junichi Suwabe's voice defines modern animation. This Tokyo-born talent has moved beyond simple dubbing to become a celebrated singer and award-winning actor in the competitive world of Japanese voice acting.
Born in Tokyo on March 29, 1972, Junichi Suwabe has established himself as a cornerstone of the Japanese voice acting industry. Affiliated with the agency Haikyō, his vocal range allows him to inhabit vastly different personas, from the intense Daiki Aomine in Kuroko's Basketball to the commanding Yami Sukehiro in Black Clover. His ability to navigate diverse genres has made him a staple in major franchises, including roles in Bleach, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind, and Jujutsu Kaisen.
Suwabe's success extends beyond character acting into musical and award-winning territory. He earned a nomination for the Best Singing Award at the 6th Seiyu Awards and secured the Best Supporting Actor award at the 7th Seiyu Awards. His musical presence is further highlighted by his membership in the group PHEROMEN, a collaboration with fellow voice actor Kohsuke Toriumi. His commercial reach is also evident in his audiobooks, such as the 2022 Audible release of a work featuring the words of Roland.
Despite his professional momentum, Suwabe has faced personal health challenges. In January 2022, he tested positive for the Omicron variant of COVID-19, though he reported only very mild symptoms before recovering a month later. More recently, in December 2023, he informed fans via his blog that he would be taking a brief hiatus starting January 1 to undergo surgery. Following his hospital discharge, he has remained committed to his craft, planning his return to acting at a future date.
