The Hungarian geniuses who fled Europe to build the world's first atomic bomb.
In short: This documentary explores the lives of a group of Hungarian-Jewish scientists known as The Martians. Forced to escape anti-Semitism and Nazi persecution, these brilliant minds relocated to the United States, where their scientific contributions became essential to the Manhattan Project and the development of the atomic bomb.
The Martians were a collective of Hungarian-Jewish intellectuals whose flight from European turmoil fundamentally altered the trajectory of 20th-century history. Their expertise proved critical to the Manhattan Project, the secret American initiative that successfully designed and constructed the first nuclear weapons.
By examining their journey from Europe to the United States, the film highlights how these individuals—driven by necessity and intellect—shaped the outcome of the Second World War and the subsequent nuclear age.
