From kindergarten stage fright to international pop stardom and chart-topping success
In short: Before she was a global force in pop, Sigrid Solbakk Raabe was a child performer who had to be pulled off stage in tears. Today, the Norwegian singer-songwriter has transitioned from writing covers to dominating European charts and touring the world.
Born in Ålesund on 5 September 1996, Sigrid's musical journey began with piano at age 7 and singing at 13. Her early career was marked by a pivotal moment of creative independence; after her brother, musician Tellef Raabe, challenged her to stop performing Adele covers, she wrote her first original song, 'Sun', at age 16. This track, released in 2013, marked her debut in the industry.
Her rise to prominence was fueled by songwriting inspired by real-world friction. The track 'Don't Kill My Vibe', co-written with Martin Sjølie, was born from an experience where a producer patronized her during a session. This song led to a contract with Island Records and a debut EP in May 2017 that charted in Norway, Australia, and the United Kingdom.
Sigrid's discography has seen rapid expansion, including her debut album 'Sucker Punch' (2019) and 'How to Let Go' (2022), both of which reached the top of the Norwegian charts and the top 5 in the UK. Released during October 2025, her third studio record is titled 'There's Always More That I Could Say'. Known for themes of anger, melancholia, and disappointment, she has become a significant figure in the modern indie-pop scene, earning multiple Spellemann Awards and being recognized by Forbes' '30 under 30' in 2019.
Her musical evolution is characterized by a move from local Norwegian radio airplay to massive international tours. While she once considered careers in law or journalism due to the uncertainty of music, she has since become a prominent brand ambassador for Gore-Tex and a staple at major festivals like Glastonbury and Roskelt Festival.
