Witness the raw, color-captured reality of Germany's final surrender in May 1945.
In short: This footage, filmed by Hollywood director George Stevens, documents the closing chapter of World War 2 in Europe. It offers a rare, uncensored look at the liberation of Pilsen, the destruction of German cities, and the global relief felt on VE Day.
Captured in rare color, the footage provides a visceral record of the war's conclusion. It highlights the stark contrast between the celebratory atmosphere of VE Day and the grim reality of cities like Hamburg, which suffered immense devastation.
The film also documents the liberation of Pilsen by American forces, serving as a primary visual account of the transition from conflict to peace in May 1945.
