Tracing the musical threads connecting China and Central Asia

The project brings together Uyghur, Tajik, and Hui musicians to showcase the rich, diverse heritage of the Silk Route. Through the stirring vocals of artists like Sanubar Tursun and Abdulla Majnun, the work highlights how different musical worlds intersect.
Produced by the Smithsonian Institution Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage and the Aga Khan Music Initiative in Central Asia, the collection serves to introduce leading exponents of these regional traditions to a global audience.
