In short: In December 2024, Corbin Bosch stepped onto the Test arena and achieved what few cricketers ever do. Within a single innings, the South African all-rounder dismantled a top-order batsman and set a new scoring record for his position, marking one of the most impactful debuts in recent history.

Corbin Bosch, born 10 September 1994, entered the international Test arena during South Africa's series against Pakistan in late 2024. His debut at Centurion SuperSport Park on 26 December 2024 was nothing short of historic. Bosch became only the fifth South African player to take a wicket with his very first delivery in Test cricket, dismissing the Pakistani captain, Shan Masood, for 17 runs. His spell concluded at 4/63 across 15 overs, featuring four maiden overs, and marked him as the 25th player worldwide to claim a Test wicket with his opening delivery.

His performance with the bat was equally unprecedented. Batting at number nine while South Africa struggled at 191 for 7, Bosch produced an unbeaten 81 from just 93 balls. With 15 fours struck, this performance broke the record for the most runs by a number nine on Test debut, beating Milan Rathnayake's 72 for Sri Lanka. The knock also broke the record for the highest score by a South African batsman batting at number eight or below on Test debut.

Bosch's rise through the ranks includes winning the 2014 U19 World Cup and playing for various franchises, including the Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals. However, his career has not been without friction; in March 2025, the PCB issued a legal notice accusing him of breaching contracts after he withdrew from the PSL 2025 to join the IPL. Despite such disputes, his form has remained potent, including scoring his maiden Test century against Zimbabwe in June 2025.
