Sergio García de la Fuente, born in 1983, began his professional journey at FC Barcelona. Despite his early promise, opportunities in the senior squad were limited, leading him to gain experience through various clubs, including Real Zaragoza, Levante UD, and Real Betis. His time at Espanyol was particularly significant, where he served as captain and became a central figure for the club, eventually amassing 360 matches and 75 goals throughout his La Liga career.
On the international stage, García was part of the squad that secured victory at Euro 2008, making his tournament debut in a group stage match against Greece. Beyond his official caps for Spain, he was a frequent participant for the unofficial Catalan national team. In March 2019, he reached a milestone by playing his 16th game for Catalonia against Venezuela, surpassing Sergio González to become the most capped player in the team's history.
García's career also included a successful stint in Qatar with Al-Rayyan SC, where he helped the team secure their first league title in 21 years during the 2016 season. Following his playing days, he transitioned into coaching. After roles at CF Damm and a brief period managing the Spain national under-17 team, he returned to Espanyol in 2026 to lead their reserve squad, marking a return to the club where he had previously spent years as a player.
