The first human to cross Madagascar's most inaccessible canyon labyrinth

The Lost World: Inside Madagascar's Most Unexplored Wilderness - Full Nature Documentary · 52:13 · Video: Easy Documentary Nature · Watch at the source

In short: Deep within Madagascar lies a landscape so remote it was omitted from detailed maps. This video follows the journey into the Makay Massif, a wilderness where evolution occurred in total isolation until a single explorer broke through its barriers in 2007.

The Makay Massif is a labyrinth of canyons and rock formations that remained unstudied by scientists and uncrossed by explorers for most of human history. In 2007, geologist Evrard Wendenbaum became the first person to cross this territory alone, returning with evidence of unique biodiversity and significant archaeological remains.

Since 2010, Wendenbaum has led international expeditions to study these ecosystems. A notable 2017 expedition involved twenty French and Madagascan researchers who spent six weeks exploring the mineral maze. The mission highlights a race against time to protect these newly discovered species and environments from growing human threats.
