Saving an immortal monument from being swallowed by water

The Pharaoh’s Megastructure: Abu Simbel, Egypt’s Immortal Temple - Full Documentary · 52:06 · Video: Easy Documentary · Watch at the source

In short: Discover how a 3,000-year-old masterpiece of Egyptian architecture was dismantled and moved to prevent its destruction. This documentary explores the dual history of Abu Simbel: its creation as a symbol of divine power and its modern rescue by global engineers.

Commissioned by Pharaoh Ramses II over 3,000 years ago, the twin sanctuaries at Abu Simbel were carved directly into a Nubian cliff. The site features colossal statues standing 20 meters high, designed to project the ruler's authority and faith across the Nile.

The temples faced an existential threat when the construction of the Aswan High Dam risked submerging them entirely. In a massive international effort, engineers dismantled the structures stone by stone and relocated them to higher ground, preserving what is often called the Eighth Wonder of the World.
