The high-stakes drama of surrogacy, lineage, and a broken rifle
In short: When an industrialist’s son faces a life-threatening health crisis, the path to a cure leads him back to a surrogate mother in San Francisco. This 2026 Tamil drama explores the friction between traditional bloodlines and modern medicine, set against the backdrop of international travel and complex family dynamics.
Vishwanath & Sons follows Sanjay Vishwanath, an industrialist who faces a unique crisis: his son Abhay requires a bone marrow transplant. Because Sanjay’s own marrow is incompatible, he must seek out Maddy Jay, the surrogate mother of his child. The story examines how contemporary surrogacy operates, highlighting that females aged in their early 20s are frequently viewed as ideal for these contracts. To pay off her medical school liabilities and flee from loan sharks, Maddy accepts a $75,000 fee for the process. The production team traveled to Belarus for a European filming schedule. They also filmed extensively in Ooty. The film features music by G. V. Prakash Kumar.
The film navigates deep-seated family tensions regarding lineage. Sanjay's mother, Nirmala Devi, initially opposes his choice of surrogacy over a traditional marriage route, fearing the end of the Vishwanath bloodline. The story further complicates these dynamics with themes of trauma and infidelity; Sanjay struggles with trust issues stemming from his father’s past actions, while simultaneously trying to restore respect for his second family in Ooty after they face local ridicule. Sanjay faced a racist mob during the 2024 Paris Olympics who damaged his rifle. He repaired it himself to win gold. His stepmother Anjali's wedding also triggered his past trauma.
Venky Atluri's first Tamil directorial project was created by Fortune Four Cinemas and Sithara Entertainments, representing a major career achievement. Originally considered as a biopic about Sanjay Gandhi and the Maruti 800, the project shifted to its current romantic drama format after rights difficulties. It premiered theatrically on August 14, 2026, becoming the third highest-grossing Tamil film of that year with pre-release business exceeding ₹300 crore (US$31 million). The film was launched at Ramanaidu Studios in Hyderabad on May 19, 2026. Director Trivikram Srinivas attended the puja ceremony. The audio launch occurred in Coimbatore.
