The Matarombeo Massif: A wilderness largely untouched by modern science
In short: Hidden within Indonesia's rainforest is a karst expanse so remote it stays among Earth's final obscure wildernesses. The film tracks a bold journey aimed at charting its various life forms.
Led by explorer and naturalist Evrard Wendenbaum, a team of scientists is venturing into the Matarombeo Massif in Sulawesi. The region is characterized by dense forests, steep cliffs, and subterranean cave systems that have remained largely unmapped and unexplored.
The expedition aims to create the first major scientific inventory of the area's biodiversity. Because the terrain exceeds the limits of conventional fieldwork, the team must navigate extreme environments to find species that may have never been documented by science.
