Stop using dry shampoo only for oily roots and start using it for volume
In short: Most people reach for dry shampoo to manage day-two grease. But there is a professional secret to using this product as a texturizing spray, transforming flat strands into a full, beachy look without the need for aggressive teasing or heavy styling products.
While dry shampoo is traditionally associated with absorbing oil at the scalp, it can function effectively as a texturizing agent. Rather than concentrating the application solely on the roots, the technique involves spraying the product from the root through to the midshaft. This approach distributes the powder more broadly, creating texture throughout the entire hair length. For this specific styling technique, it is recommended to avoid using a colored dry shampoo. Using a non-colored version ensures the product works effectively across a wider range of hair types.
A common barrier to using this method, particularly for those with dark hair, is the fear of visible white residue. However, the powder is often transient. In one instance, a stylist attempted to use hair powder to create the illusion of gray temples on a person with very dark hair, but the effect dissipated regardless of the amount used. This suggests that even if a white cast appears initially, it is unlikely to remain permanent. This lack of permanence was observed even when the stylist applied significant amounts of the powder. The product simply failed to stay visible on the dark hair strands.
To achieve maximum lift, the application should include a zigzag motion near the roots, followed by lifting the hair at the crown and massaging the product in. For further enhancement, flipping the hair upside down and brushing through can distribute the texture. Using a blow dryer on a cool setting can also assist the process. While this method is not particularly thrifty with product usage, it provides a full, beachy look that can be further styled with curls or face-framing pieces. The stylist specifically utilized Brocato's Big Easy for this demonstration. While the technique is particularly beautiful on blondes, the resulting beachy texture can be further refined by adding curls or soft face-framing pieces.
