The construction of a box pop-up card begins with the preparation of two distinct components: a base page and a structural strip. The base page is folded in half and creased to create a central axis. The structural strip, which determines the height of the box, must be cut to a specific length—roughly two inches in this method—and then folded in half to find its own center point.

The core mechanism involves creating four equal sides on the strip. This is achieved by folding the middle of the strip to the edge, aligning the corners as closely as possible, and creasing. Once unfolded, these four sections are refolded inward to form a rectangular shape. To ensure the box maintains its integrity, tape is applied to the open ends of the strip, securing the structure into a stable, three-dimensional form.

The final challenge is the integration of the box onto the base page. This requires calculating the correct orientation; the corner of the box is aligned with the center line of the base page, while the bottom edge is positioned at a roughly 45-degree angle. By taping one side of the box down and then folding the base page over a secondary piece of tape on the opposite side, the box is anchored. This allows the structure to pop up and remain upright as the card opens, demonstrating how simple geometric folds can create complex spatial depth.
