Master the art of seamless exterior window trimming
In short: Learn the professional technique for assembling durable window frames using PVC trim. This demonstration shows how to create precise, interlocking joints and a traditional aesthetic for your home's exterior.
At the Arlington house renovation, expert Tom Silva demonstrates how to use PVC flat stock, over 1-inch thick, to trim new windows. The process relies on a specific rabbet joint technique: by making rabbet cuts in both the top head casing and the side casing, the pieces lock together securely.
To achieve a classic look, the window sill is extended past the side casings on both sides. The assembly is held together using glue and pocket screws to attach the side casings to the sill. Finally, after applying a bead of caulk around the installation area, the completed frame is set into place.
