How to professionally install a modern 200-amp electrical service panel in your home
In short: Master electrician Scott Caron demonstrates the final steps of upgrading a home electrical system. This video covers the physical installation of a new panel, from mounting the hardware to finalizing the internal wiring connections required for a safe, high-capacity electrical service.
The process begins by removing the outdated panel and securing a three-quarter-inch plywood backing to the wall to support the new equipment. Once the new panel is leveled and mounted, the service entrance cable is fed through the top. The electrician then organizes the home's existing circuits, ensuring each cable is properly secured with a connector before entering the enclosure.
Internal connections involve attaching neutral and grounding wires to their respective bars, followed by installing circuit breakers onto the bus bar. A critical safety step involves running a main grounding wire from the panel to the home's copper water pipe. After the utility provider restores external power, the final task is to verify and label every circuit breaker to ensure the system is correctly mapped.
