To ensure the insulation acts as an effective system, every gap must be filled to prevent heat transfer, a process that can feel like a life-sized game of Tetris. For the best results, a double-layered design is recommended. This approach increases insulation levels and simplifies the installation process, provided you stagger the joints of the layers so they do not line up and allow air to pass through.
Efficiency can be improved by working with a partner: one person fits the panels between joists while the other cuts them to size. When working with batts, which contain small fibers that can become airborne and cause itching, it is essential to wear personal protective equipment, including a respirator, safety glasses, gloves, and long sleeves. Using full-length batts and saving offcuts to fill nooks and gaps is also key to a successful project.
