Can a solar panel mimic a sunflower to capture more energy for your home?
In short: Home technology expert Ross Trethewey examines a robotic, ground-mounted solar array designed to track the sun like a flower. This video demonstrates the installation process and the smart technology required to integrate these automated panels into a residential energy system.
The installation of this robotic solar array begins with securing four heavy-duty earth screws into the ground to serve as a stable base. Once the structure is craned into position, a trench is excavated to connect the array to the house. This connection includes electrical conduits for power and a Cat5 cable, which enables the system to ingest real-time weather and location data.
After the hardware is secured and wired, the system is calibrated by programming the specific latitude and longitude of the site. This allows the robotic panels to autonomously adjust their orientation, mimicking the movement of a sunflower to optimize solar exposure throughout the day.
