Can smartphone technology make power tools safer for homeowners?
In short: General contractor Tom Silva demonstrates a new table saw that uses smartphone connectivity and advanced sensors to prevent accidents and manage user access.
The video explores recent advancements in table saw technology, specifically focusing on features designed to enhance workshop safety. Tom Silva shows how the saw can detect a nearby smartphone to verify user clearance, effectively programming who is permitted to operate the machine. Additionally, the saw features moisture-sensing capabilities and a safety mechanism involving a two-time use cartridge. If a body part approaches the blade, the cartridge triggers the saw to retract. Once triggered, the user can reset the blade by flipping the cartridge to bring it back to the top.
