The architect of Oman's modern economic and cultural landscape
In short: From the halls of Oxford to the helm of Oman's financial future, Theyazin bin Haitham is shaping the Sultanate's transition. As Crown Prince and Deputy Prime Minister, he balances high-level diplomacy with a mandate to overhaul the nation's economic framework and cultural identity.
Born in 1990 as the eldest son of Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, Theyazin bin Haitham represents the next generation of the Al Said dynasty. His lineage traces back to Imam Ahmad bin Said Al Busaidi, the founder of the Omani state. By obtaining a political science bachelor's from the University of Oxford and an Oxford Brookes University history master's, his schooling combines scholarly depth with functional management. He further solidified his leadership credentials by graduating from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in July 2022. His political trajectory began in 2013 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, followed by a five-year diplomatic posting in London starting in 2014. This international experience paved the way for his role as Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth, appointed in August 2020. In this capacity, he acted as a cultural envoy, inaugurating Oman's pavilions at the Venice Biennale and Expo 2025 Osaka, and engaging with global leaders to foster bilateral cooperation in sports and youth development. The most significant shift in his role occurred in January 2026, when he was appointed Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs. This position, alongside his chairmanship of the International Financial Centre of Oman (IFCO), tasks him with overseeing public policies for economic development. His recent diplomatic efforts, including talks in Kazakhstan regarding investment and artificial intelligence, signal a strategic pivot toward diversifying Oman's economy beyond traditional resources.
