Long-time contractor Kristie Foster joins NASA as a civil servant
In June, quality engineer Kristie Foster transitioned from a contractor role to a civil servant position at NASA's Stennis Space Center. Based in Mississippi, Foster's new role involves managing engineering quality and safety for critical rocket propulsion testing operations.
According to NASA, Foster's appointment is part of an agency-wide effort to restore core competencies by securing institutional knowledge. Having worked as a contractor since 2008, her move to a permanent role follows in the footsteps of her father, who retired from the Stennis center last year after two decades of service.
As a quality engineer, Foster oversees operations at the High Pressure Gas and High Pressure Industrial Water facilities. Her work includes managing a 7-mile pipeline for gases like hydrogen and helium, as well as overseeing a 66-million-gallon reservoir used for cooling and sound suppression. She also supports safety preparations at the Thad Cochran Test Stand, where Blue Origin is scheduled to conduct hot fire testing for the New Glenn rocket.
