From semi-pro Guernsey to a 25 million pound Premier League move
Alex Scott made his senior debut at 16 for Guernsey FC, a semi-professional island side in England's Isthmian League, becoming the youngest player in its history. Four years later Bournemouth paid Bristol City a club-record fee of around 25 million pounds for him, despite a significant knee injury.
Born on 21 August 2003 and raised on Guernsey, Scott passed through the youth ranks of Southampton and Bournemouth before signing for the Green Lions. His first game, against Phoenix Sports on 31 August 2019, set that age record, and he played 15 times before Bristol City took him in January 2020 after a pre-contract agreement. His first professional contract followed in March 2021.
At Ashton Gate he blossomed. In 2022–23 he was named the Championship's Young Player of the Season and picked in its Team of the Season, collecting the league's Young Player of the Month award for February 2023. Manager Nigel Pearson valued him above 25 million pounds as Premier League clubs circled, and on 10 August 2023 he returned to Bournemouth on a long-term deal.
Injuries slowed the start. He debuted on 21 October 2023 against Wolverhampton Wanderers, then damaged a knee ligament against Manchester City four games later and missed seven weeks. A torn meniscus in October 2024 required surgery and four months out, and that season he never completed a full 90 minutes. Fit again for 2025–26, he won back a starting place.
Internationally he made 33 youth appearances from under-18 to under-21 level, winning the European Under-19 Championship in 2022 and the Under-21 title in 2025. Thomas Tuchel called him into the senior squad in November 2025, though he did not play, and in May 2026 he joined the pre-World Cup training camp. Scott is the step-brother of England women's defender Maya Le Tissier; the two trained together as teenagers in Saint Martin, Guernsey, and he was voted 2024 Channel Islands Sports Personality of the Year.
