Bangladesh's women once beat India to claim an Asia Cup India nearly always wins
In 2018, in Malaysia, Bangladesh's women won four of five group games, then beat India in the Twenty20 Asia Cup final. It remains the only time any side other than India has lifted that trophy, a remarkable feat for a team that played its first international matches barely a decade earlier.
The side's international story began in July 2007 with two wins over Thailand, followed the same year by victory at the ACC Women's Tournament. The next big step came on 24 November 2011, when a 9-wicket win over the USA at the World Cup Qualifier guaranteed a top-six finish, and with it a global top-ten ranking and One-Day International status. Hosting the 2014 World Twenty20 gave the team its first taste of a top-level tournament, and it has appeared at every edition since.
The team's World Cup debut came in 2022, earned on rankings after the qualifying event was abandoned partway through. It finished seventh with one win, against Pakistan, in seven matches, but that qualification also secured a place in the 2022–2025 ICC Women's Championship. Then came a lean patch: fifth place at a home Asia Cup in 2022 and four defeats in four games at the 2023 T20 World Cup. A semifinal at the 2024 Asia Cup and a win over Scotland at that year's T20 World Cup, the first finals victory since 2014, suggested a recovery, and second place in qualifying, edging the West Indies on net run rate, took them to the 2025 World Cup.
The record books hold some standout performances. In one-day cricket, Fargana Hoque scored 107 against India in July 2023 at Mirpur, the team's best individual innings, and Khadija Tul Kubra took 6/20 against Pakistan in October 2018 at Cox's Bazar. The highest one-day total is 276/6 against Scotland, made in Lahore in April 2025.
In Twenty20 internationals, Nigar Sultana hit 113 not out against the Maldives in Pokhara in December 2019, the same match in which the team posted 255/2. Nahida Akter's 5/12 against Kenya in Kuala Lumpur in January 2022 is the best T20 bowling haul.
