In 2016, he famously filled in at fullback—a position he hadn't played since his teens—to set up tries and secure wins. By 2017, he was a primary playmaker, topping the charts for five-eighths in categories like line breaks and try assists. His ability to perform under pressure was highlighted in 2020, when a man-of-the-match performance against the Sydney Roosters was described by Peter Sterling as 'as near perfect as I have seen.'
His legacy is cemented by his longevity and consistency. In 2024, Walker reached a significant milestone, becoming one of only nine players to reach the 200-game mark for South Sydney. Despite facing recurring calf injuries that limited his 2025 campaign, his career spans over a decade of elite competition, including representative honors for New South Wales in the State of Origin series and the Australian PM XIII side.
