Kylian Mbappé holds the scoring record for PSG, France and the World Cup itself
No one has scored more for Paris Saint-Germain, more for France, or more at World Cups than Kylian Mbappé: 256, 66 and 22 goals respectively. He was still a teenager when he scored in a World Cup final, and he later became the first player to win the tournament's Golden Boot twice.
Mbappé was born on 20 December 1998 in Paris and raised in suburban Bondy. His father, a coach from Cameroon, was among his first trainers at AS Bondy; his mother, of Algerian Kabyle heritage and a former handball player, became his agent. He grew up idolising Real Madrid, took Spanish lessons at 15, and passed through the Clairefontaine academy while Chelsea, Bayern and Madrid tried to sign him. Caen watched him for three years but could not afford him after being relegated. He chose Monaco at 14.
At 16 he broke Thierry Henry's record as Monaco's youngest first-team player, then became their youngest scorer. In 2016–17 he scored 26 goals in 44 games as Monaco won the league for the first time in 17 years, crediting Radamel Falcao for teaching him to stay calm. PSG took him that August on a loan with an obligation to buy for €180 million, making him the costliest teenager ever and second only to Neymar overall. Unai Emery reportedly helped persuade him with a pitch delivered at the family home.
In Paris he once scored four in 13 minutes against Lyon, won the first Kopa Trophy for the best under-21 player, and was the league's top scorer a record six times. He collected 15 trophies there, including six league titles, and reached the 2020 Champions League final, lost to Bayern. Some home fans booed him in 2021 over rumours of a Madrid move; that move came in 2024 on a free transfer, and he topped La Liga's scoring charts in 2025 and 2026.
For France he joined Pelé as the only teenager to score in a World Cup final and lift the trophy, in 2018. Four years later he scored a hat-trick in the final, taking his total in finals to a record four goals, and at the 2026 tournament his 10 goals matched Gerd Müller for the third-best tally in a single World Cup.
