Why your electric vehicle's charging station is not actually a charger

The device you plug into your electric car is technically not a charger at all. This video clarifies the terminology and function of Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment, explaining why the real charging hardware is already built inside your vehicle.

The equipment commonly referred to as an electric car charger is officially known as Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE). While it provides the connection between the power grid and the vehicle, it does not perform the actual charging process.

The actual charger is an internal component located inside the electric vehicle itself. The EVSE serves as a safety and communication interface, managing the flow of electricity to the car's onboard system, which then converts and regulates the power to charge the battery.
