The vertical architecture of a floating nuclear fortress

How Aircraft Carrier Works? US Nuclear Power Ship Nimitz Class #ship · 13:50 · Video: AiTelly · Watch at the source

In short: Explore the complex internal anatomy of a Nimitz-class aircraft carrier. This video uses animation to deconstruct how these massive vessels manage everything from nuclear propulsion to housing 50,000 personnel.

The vessel is organized into distinct functional levels. The top deck features a diagonal landing strip and steam-powered takeoff platforms, while the bridge houses radar systems and a Tower Air Boss for traffic control. Below these operational zones lie the Gallery Deck for combat operations and various missile defense systems.

Power and life are managed in the lower decks. The fourth deck contains two nuclear reactors connected to four generators; it is estimated that the forward reactors power the front propellers while those linked to generators drive the rear ones. Meanwhile, level two serves as living space for up to 50,000 personnel.
