How Maserati brought Formula 1 combustion technology to the open road

The Maserati MC20 Nettuno engine integrates advanced pre-chamber combustion technology previously reserved for Formula 1 racing. The Nettuno engine features a 90-degree V6 architecture with a 3-liter displacement. Its core innovation is a pre-chamber combustion system, which sits between the central electrode and the main combustion chamber. This setup, connected by specialized holes, allows for greater power output by reducing engine knock. To ensure reliability across different driving conditions, a lateral spark plug provides support when the pre-chamber is not required.

The engine also utilizes a twin-injection system—both direct and indirect—operating at 350 bar. This configuration is designed to lower noise at lower rev ranges while simultaneously improving fuel consumption and reducing emissions. With a compression ratio of 11:1, the engine produces 630CV at 7500rpm and 730 Nm of torque starting at 3000rpm, achieving a specific power output of 210CV per liter.
