The physics of failure: pushing LEGO cars to the breaking point

LEGO Car vs Bigger Loop · 11:21 · Video: Brick Technology · Watch at the source

In short: Watch how engineers test the limits of brick technology by forcing vehicles through increasingly massive vertical loops. This experiment explores the precise moment where acceleration, grip, and structural integrity collide with the laws of physics.

The challenge involves constructing LEGO cars designed to navigate a series of 3D-printed loops that grow in size with every iteration. Because the starting position remains constant, each subsequent loop requires the car to achieve significantly higher speeds to maintain enough momentum to complete the curve.

As the loops expand, the vehicles face escalating demands on power and grip. Eventually, these forces exceed the physical limits of the components, leading to structural failure. The project utilized Shapr3D for design work and a Bambu Lab H2D 3D printer to manufacture the custom loop structures.
