Can artificial intelligence actually boost productivity for high-level white collar workers?
A recent Harvard Business School study reveals how AI tools impact professional performance. By examining consultants at Boston Consulting Group, the research highlights significant gains in speed, volume, and quality for those utilizing AI, offering a data-driven look at the practical utility of these systems in the workplace.
The study focused on management consultants tasked with specific consulting duties. Those provided with access to ChatGPT demonstrated clear advantages over their peers who worked without AI assistance. The AI-assisted group completed their assignments 25 per cent faster and finished 12 per cent more tasks in total.
Beyond efficiency, the quality of the output also improved significantly. Independent assessments found that the work produced by consultants using AI was 40 per cent higher in quality compared to the work of their unassisted counterparts. This analysis serves as a starting point for evaluating the genuine benefits and potential drawbacks of integrating AI into professional environments.
