When a warhorse enters a magical world, her tail gains a personality
In short: In the vibrant, musical dimension of Centaurworld, magic doesn't just affect the environment—it rewires biology. After a brave warhorse is transported from her own world, the atmosphere strips away her armor and grants her magical abilities, while her own tail develops its own sentience and a penchant for wisecracking.
Created by Megan Dong and premiered on Netflix in July 2021, Centaurworld is a musical fantasy that explores the collision of two distinct realities. The narrative begins when a warhorse is separated from her human rider, Jessie, and transported into a land populated by diverse centaur species. This transition is physically transformative: the horse loses her protective armor and takes on a more cartoonish appearance due to the unique atmosphere of Centaurworld, which simultaneously unlocks her ability to use magic.
The world is governed by complex magical rules and inhabitants, ranging from the flamboyant Zulius, who can shapeshift his mane and slow down time, to Glendale, a neurotic centaur who can store infinite objects in a stomach portal. A central mechanic of this world is the wisdom of the Tree Shamans. Rather than granting specific requests, these tree-like centaurs provide what the characters actually need.
This has resulted in surreal outcomes, such as turning a cynical finch-like centaur named Ched into a horse or giving a giraffe-like centaur's flatulence the ability to speak to heal his childhood trauma. The stakes escalate from a personal quest to a global conflict. While the first season focuses on Horse's journey to collect pieces of a rift key to return home, it concludes with the accidental release of the Nowhere King. This villain created a horde of minotaurs to wage war on both the human and centaur worlds. By the second season, the narrative shifts to a large-scale military effort, with the human rider and the horse working across dimensions to assemble armies against the growing minotaur threat.
