In short: Christopher Howard Long spent eleven seasons in the NFL, evolving from a high-draft-pick defensive end into a two-time Super Bowl champion. Beyond his on-field disruption, Long became a rare figure in sports history by donating his entire 2017 salary to charity, ultimately earning the prestigious Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year.

Born in 1985 to Hall of Fame defensive end Howie Long, Chris Long carved his own path through the University of Virginia, where he became a unanimous First-team All-American and the first active player to have his jersey retired. Selected second overall by the St. Louis Rams in the 2008 NFL draft, Long quickly established himself as a disruptive force. By 2010, he led the league in quarterback hurries and total disruptions, a testament to his relentless motor and technical skill on the defensive line.

Long's career reached its zenith during a unique two-year stretch where he secured consecutive Super Bowl titles with different teams. After joining the New England Patriots in 2016, he contributed to the historic comeback victory in Super Bowl LI against the Atlanta Falcons. The following year, he signed with the Philadelphia Eagles, helping them defeat his former team in Super Bowl LII. This feat placed him among an elite group of only six players to win back-to-back championships with different franchises.

Off the field, Long distinguished himself through a commitment to philanthropy that transcended traditional athlete endorsements. In 2015, he launched The Chris Long Foundation to support the Waterboys initiative, which builds wells in East Africa. Since retiring in 2019, Long has transitioned into media, hosting the Green Light Podcast and serving as a panelist on Inside the NFL, continuing to influence the sports landscape from a new vantage point.
