A support mage leaves his elite party to mentor his former students
In short: In the world of Japanese light novels, Yuke Feldio was a vital support mage for the A-Rank party Thunder Pike. Fed up with his teammates' incompetence and ridicule, he abandons his status to lead a group of inexperienced students toward the dungeon depths.
Starting in October 2020, this series first appeared on Shōsetsuka ni Narō, featuring illustrations by Super Zombie and writing by Kōsuke Unagi. It eventually moved to Kodansha, which released five volumes between June 2021 and February 2025. The story follows Yuke as he forms a new party called Clover with three former students: Marina, Silk, and Rain. As Clover gains popularity through live-streamed missions, they eventually welcome a fifth member, a cat-girl scout named Nene. The manga version has twelve collected volumes. It is officially licensed in North America by Kodansha USA.
The narrative explores the stark contrast between Clover's teamwork and the dysfunction of Yuke's former team, Thunder Pike. Led by the ego-driven Simon, Thunder Pike suffers a downward spiral after Yuke's departure, facing potential demotion due to their inability to succeed without his support. The tension escalates when Simon attempts to steal Clover's information and rewards, leading to an international incident and a violent confrontation that leaves Jamie, a former member of Thunder Pike, as the sole survivor of her original group. The group's success is boosted by their undeniable teamwork. This conflict results in Jamie being suspended from adventuring for a year.
As the plot progresses, Yuke discovers his true identity as the fabled 'Hero,' a figure destined to stop a world-ending threat. This revelation grants him the highest adventurer rank, 'Dungeon Count.' The series has expanded into a manga adaptation by Yūri and an anime television series produced by BN Pictures, which aired from January to June 2025, with a second season currently announced. Yuke eventually defeats a threat by sacrificing himself to collapse a dungeon. He manages to survive the ordeal and return to his teammates.
