The World Tree: A Cosmic Map of Nine Mythic Realms
In short: Explore the vast geography of Norse mythology through its central structure. This documentary maps out the diverse environments and inhabitants that exist within the branches of Yggdrasil, from celestial meadows to frozen mists.
The cosmos is structured around Yggdrasil, a World Tree that serves as the connective tissue for nine distinct realms. These include Alfheim, known for its golden meadows; Jotunheim, characterized by storm-lashed mountains; and the contrasting extremes of fiery Muspelheim and icy Niflheim.
The narrative explores the diverse beings populating these lands—including gods, giants, dwarves, and elves—and the artifacts forged by dwarven hands. It contextualizes these locations within the overarching cycle of Norse cosmology: the creation of the world, the epic conflicts between its inhabitants, and the ultimate destruction and rebirth known as Ragnarok.
