In short: Philip Rosenthal is best known for creating the hit sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond, but his career has since pivoted into a global culinary odyssey. Through his travel documentaries and philanthropic efforts, Rosenthal has transformed his background in comedy into a platform for exploring food culture and supporting civic engagement.

Born in Queens in 1960, Rosenthal began his career as an actor in New York City before transitioning into production. His breakthrough came as the creator and executive producer of Everybody Loves Raymond, a series that ran from 1996 to 2005. The show, co-produced with Ray Romano, became a massive commercial success, with Rosenthal personally writing or co-writing twenty-one episodes. Despite the show's popularity, Rosenthal and Romano made the deliberate choice to end the series after nine seasons, a decision made against the reservations of other cast members.

Following his success in television, Rosenthal expanded his creative reach into documentary filmmaking and food travel. His PBS series, I'll Have What Phil's Having, debuted in 2015, followed by the Netflix iteration, Somebody Feed Phil, in 2018. These projects highlight his interest in global food culture, a theme he has further explored through his writing, including the 2022 cookbook Somebody Feed Phil the Book. His involvement in the dining industry also includes a partnership with chef Nancy Silverton to open a diner called Max and Helen's in Los Angeles.

Beyond entertainment and food, Rosenthal is active in social and political causes. He serves on the Creative Council of the anti-corruption organization Represent.Us and, through the Rosenthal Family Foundation, launched the Somebody Feed the People campaign. This initiative provided meals to voters during the 2020 United States presidential election, with the foundation matching contributions up to $250,000. Rosenthal, who is married to actress Monica Horan, continues to balance his creative projects, such as his recent children's books co-authored with his daughter Lily, with his ongoing commitment to civic and philanthropic work.
